Around a two hour journey from Sydney and 90 minutes from Newcastle the Broke Fordwich area is in the southwest corner of the mid Hunter Valley. Sitting between Pokolbin and Wollombi, Broke played a critical role in the development and history of NSW.

Next door to boutique vineyards and near the olive farms of Broke , 15-20 minutes to the heart or Pokolbin for the best wine tasting and restaurants in NSW and for the golf enthusiasts, two of the best and most challenging golf courses in Australia (the Vintage and Cypress Lakes). Near great Wedding Venues.

Broke Village stands at the base of the Brokenback and Hunter Ranges on the Wollombi Brook. The massive Yellow Rock escarpment stands guard above. The Ranges shelter Broke Fordwich from much of the rainfall that surrounding districts receive. The area has a sandy loam with river flat alluvial soil, volcanic soil and pockets of red basalt giving wine producers a variety of soil types known as terra rossa.

Today Broke Fordwich is still making history. In 1994 it was the first area formally recognised as a separate viticulture. Whilst historically, it is one of the oldest wine growing areas in Australia, it is only in the last 30 years that Broke Fordwich has started to become an important player in the Australian industry.

Today, more than a quarter of the Hunters wine grape production now comes from the area and Broke Fordwich wines are winning more than their fair share of national and international awards.

Importantly, Broke Fordwich retains its integrity as a rural community remaining free of large scale development yet offering first class B&B and self catering accommodation, restaurants and activities. Visitors to the area are surprised by the amount of wildlife they see

Beautiful accommodation

Hunter moon country house was perfect for our group of 20. Colette and Mike were very helpful and communicated well throughout the booking. On arrival we had local chilled wine ready for us along with other thoughtful touches. The house is beautifully decorated, well equipped, rooms are spacious and the surrounding gardens are very pretty. The hot tub was huge, a great addition to the house & perfect for relaxing in the evening. There are some great local wineries within a short walking distance. I highly recommend the Hunter moon & would definitely return.

Family reunion

The Hunter Moon was just as advertised, beautifully appointed and comfortable. The house was suitable for people with mobility issues. It was a wonderful venue for the family get together , plenty of room. The kangaroos came in the early morning.

Magical weekend escape

We had the best 2 nights at the hunter moon house, there were 15 of us staying for a concert at Hope Estate. The rooms are all gorgeous and the new renovations are amazing. We spent a lot of time enjoying the view from large table outside on the verandah. The spa made for a great afternoon relax after we had visited the local wineries down the road. Thank you so much we already can’t wait to come back next time.

Starting from the communication with Colette, she is one of the best person in the world I had ever made the booking for holiday vacation. The Guidance about and around the house was absolutely informative. Once we reached the house the landscape mainly the rose flowers made us late to enter the house as all of us was busy in taking a lot of photos, really stunning!! All the bed rooms were classy looking, the living area and dining including kitchen was fully equipped all you need in a 5 star accommodation. The most wonderful area was the spa all of us just relaxed onnnnnnnnnn . We just went for an evening walk and felt the real country side atmosphere and many wine yards just a minutes away One of the best wine yard Catherine Vale Wines the owner, she just explained around 45 Mins to our group on wine processing starting from the plantation of grape vine till the final product, always recommend to visit there. will be back again Regards Amiya

Thank you to Colette and Mike for a wonderful stay. The houses are so well equipped and the setting is beautiful. The spa, massage chair, fire place and being close to Hunter Valley Gardens, wineries and boutique stores we had plenty on offer when we weren't relaxing. Communication was always prompt and helpful. We look forward to staying again!
